Bike Mechanic Class by Mr. Ayub

PCFS bike mechanic, Mr. Ayub, conducted a bike mechanic class on 18 April 2026, with 13 participants in attendance.

This engaging and insightful training session included guided teaching, group discussions, and hands-on practice, allowing participants to actively learn and clarify their questions. It was encouraging to see everyone fully engaged and making the most of this opportunity.

Thank you, Mr. Ayub, for generously giving your time to teach our PCFS athletes, volunteers, and caregivers!

If you missed this session, below is a summary of the important points covered.

Key Areas to Inspect:
1. Wheels & Tires: Check that all wheels are securely attached and that tires are properly inflated for the terrain.

2. Brakes: Ensure the brake pads are not worn down and that the hand lever on the crank provides enough stopping power.

3. Crank System: Check that the crank is tightened and turns smoothly. Balance the pedals to ensure they are comfortable for your arm length.

4. Seat & Straps: Inspect the seat upholstery for damage and ensure the seatbelt (or “click strap”) securely holds you in place.

5. Frame & Cables: Check the frame for loose nuts or bolts, particularly on the footrest and seat brackets. Inspect cable housing for cracks.

Pre-Ride Checklist:
1. Check tightness: Shake the handcycle to detect any loose parts, especially the chainrings and wheels.

2. Test Steering: Ensure the steering mechanism is responsive, as it is controlled directly at the hand grips.

3. Lubricate: Keep the chain and moving components clean and lubricated to avoid rust.
