I believe it was in 2022-23.What brought you to PCFS?
I was trying to expand my school's cycling programme to be more inclusive. We have several students who were paraplegics as well as visually handicapped. I was a caregiver to a student who was willing to go through the PCFS programme.
What inspired you to continue to stay on and be part of PCFS?
The dedication and commitment of the athletes and the involvement of their caregivers. The independence that PCFS gave to them and how it improved their self-esteem.
What were some roles you played in the beginning when you came, and how has your role changed?
I helped to be a guide cyclist. I also helped with some coaching, like conducting warm-ups and acting as a safety rider. Later, I became a coach. Now I help outfit their processes, especially concerning safety.
What do you enjoy/like about coaching PCFS?
It’s a fun thing, but they take it seriously. There are targets and goals. There are aspirational targets and representation opportunities for international games.
What's a favourite/memorable coaching moment in PCFS that you can remember?
I fondly remember the participants, some of them with special needs, coming up to me and interacting with me confidently. I felt I was part of something bigger than just cycling.
What would you like to share with those out there who are considering being part of the PCFS coaching team or a volunteer?
Everyone is at a different life stage, and how they can contribute varies. Do wait for the perfect time. Just start with small tasks. It becomes a habit. Then hopefully one day you can give more.
